The Swansons are independent Christian Church/Church of Christ missionaries sent out under the authority and structure of Deer Creek Christian Church in University Park, Illinois. They have three sons, a daughter, and two grandchildren, all of whom now reside in California. Jack and Janine began their ministry in Chile in 1993. Children and their welfare is a main ministry focus. A developing project is construction of two duplexes, now underway and expected to be completed within the next year. They intend to receive and care for abandoned children (6 to 8 per house). These street orphans have no relatives, no persons, no government nor private agencies interested in their welfare. The first house was opened and received children in March, 2010.
Their work on a church plant began in mid 2003 and services began in April of 2005. “Iglesia Christiana Jesus Es El Camino”, as translated into English means “Jesus Is The Way Christian Church”. Services are held in a multi-purpose building at the rear of the ministry site. The church is growing with a mix of children, teens, men and women composing the weekly attendance of 30 – 50.
Community outreach programs include a men’s group, a women’s group, a young adults’ group (18-26 years old), and a youth/teens’ group. Their “English Club”, teaching English as a second language, is becoming a very good outreach to both teens and adults. Jack teaches twice a month at a live-in drug rehab center and is also involved in teaching and raising up Chilean pastors, teachers and church leaders within Chile at the Chilean Bible Training Institute in Betania. To encourage interest in a mission experience, the Swansons welcome church mission groups and offer college students an internship residency program for college credits.
